Shanghai, July 2 /Xinhua/ — On Wednesday, the 2nd exchange event between young and mid-level officers under the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) concluded in the city of Shanghai /East China/, which is an important measure by China to develop practical cooperation in defense and security within the SCO framework.
The event lasted from June 25 to July 1. Experts from the Academy of Military Sciences of the People’s Liberation Army of China (PLA), the PLA National Defense University, and the Eurasian Studies Department of the China Institute of International Studies gave lectures and engaged in exchanges with event participants on topics such as “implementing the ‘Shanghai Spirit’ to create a SCO community of shared destiny,” “four major global initiatives and regional cooperation in national defense and security,” as well as “development of the SCO.”
During the event, 33 representatives from various countries visited the Chinese supercomputer “Tianhe,” the BeiDou satellite navigation system, the ocean dynamics physical modeling laboratory, and other educational and research facilities at the National University of Defense Technology of the People’s Liberation Army. Participants also visited the PLA Navy base in Shanghai and a township in Changsha city, Hunan province /Central China/.
Earlier, the official representative of the Ministry of Defense of the PRC, Zhang Xiaogan, stated that this event is aimed at strengthening friendship, reaching consensus on cooperation, and actively promoting the high-quality development of cooperation within the SCO in the field of defense and security, characterized by greater solidarity, coordination, vitality, and productivity.
