Caracas, July 2 /Xinhua/ — The death toll from two powerful earthquakes that occurred in Venezuela on June 24 has risen to 2,295 people, and the number of injured has reached 11,267, reported Venezuelan National Assembly President Jorge Rodríguez on Wednesday.
“As of today, there are 2,295 dead and 11,267 injured. Currently, we count 12,841 people affected by the natural disaster,” said H. Rodriguez during the daily briefing on the country’s situation after the earthquakes.
According to him, more than 4,000 rescuers and volunteers from different countries and from Venezuela itself rescued 6,461 people.
H. Rodriguez, who also heads the task force for setting up temporary camps, called on healthcare workers, security personnel, and firefighters to register on the Patria platform to address housing issues caused by the earthquakes.
According to him, 25 temporary camps are operating, including 13 in La Guaira, eight in Caracas, two in Miranda, one in Carabobo, and one in Yaracuy.
The authorities are swiftly taking measures to equip the camps and relocate those affected there.
According to H. Rodriguez, since June 24, 782 aftershocks have been recorded in Venezuela, although their frequency and magnitude have decreased. –0–
