Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak took part in the plenary session “Course for Long-Term Growth: How Not to Lose Opportunities,” held within the framework of the Bank of Russia Financial Congress, with the participation of the Governor of the Bank of Russia Elvira Nabiullina, CEO of Sberbank Herman Gref, CEO of VTB Bank Andrey Kostin, and Chief Managing Director of Alfa-Bank Vladimir Verkhoshinsky.
The Deputy Prime Minister noted that the economy always adapts to current external and internal challenges. Today, the country is experiencing external sanctions restrictions and is reconfiguring logistics flows. At the same time, the main focus is on striving for technological leadership, competitiveness, increasing labor productivity, structural changes in employment, and adjusting to the sectors that will become drivers of economic development.
“When it comes to structural changes, special attention should be paid to the development of such areas as the creative and platform economies. If a couple of years ago the creative sector accounted for less than 3% of GDP, by the end of 2025 its share had already reached 4.2%. The goal is to reach 6% by 2030. This is a very important area, especially for small and medium-sized businesses, cities, and municipalities. Platform solutions, on the other hand, are related to changes in the entire structure of the economy as a whole. And Russia is very actively implementing relevant mechanisms, digital solutions, the use of large databases, and artificial intelligence. Today, we are among the leaders in the world in this field,” noted Alexander Novak.
Key attention was given to the topic of labor productivity. The Deputy Prime Minister said that it should become a national idea, as without increasing productivity in all sectors – the public sector, businesses of all sizes, budgetary organizations – it is impossible to compete fully, implement modern technologies, and develop the economy as a whole. “The government is now paying special attention to this topic. Active efforts were made to disseminate and provide support to enterprises for the implementation of modern lean manufacturing technologies. Today, the focus is precisely on the introduction of automated management systems, robotics, and digital solutions. Significant work has been carried out, with 17 sectoral programs prepared. These initiatives are supported and stimulated by the government, and there are various tools aimed at finding opportunities that would be more effectively directed towards achieving such an important goal as increasing labor productivity,” emphasized Alexander Novak.
