Tashkent, June 30 /Xinhua/ — Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev called for further expansion and deepening of practical cooperation with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). This was reported by the press service of the Uzbek leader following his meeting with IMF Deputy Managing Director Li Bo.

During the negotiations held, the parties discussed the current situation and prospects for the development of global financial markets, as well as considered key aspects of strengthening cooperation within the framework of the agreements reached in September of last year in New York.

The important role of the IMF in implementing large-scale reforms in Uzbekistan aimed at improving monetary, currency, and fiscal policy was noted.

The parties indicated the need to increase expert-technical assistance from the fund in several key areas, such as the development of a macroeconomic policy and digital payments strategy, liberalization of capital movement, improvement of the national statistics methodology, management of public revenues, and maintenance of a free exchange rate of the sum.

Special attention at the meeting was paid to expanding training and advanced training programs for personnel in Uzbekistan’s economic agencies. –0–
