The innovative installation “Matryoshka of Moscow” in Zaryadye Park has become an international precedent in the field of urban design after six months of operation. This unique dynamic structure acts as an interactive calendar, technologically transforming itself according to key cultural and infrastructure events in the metropolis. This was stated by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry, Maksim Liksutov.
In six months, a multidisciplinary team of capital’s 3D designers, artists, and historians created 20 unique digital programs, divided into two strategic directions:
- cultural programs: The installation originally congratulated viewers on significant national dates. In winter, historical chronicles were broadcast for Defender of the Fatherland Day and Victory Day, for March 8 the object was decorated with large digital flowers, and by May 1 the structure turned into an 11-meter kinetic tulip.
- Infrastructure milestones: The show visualized Moscow’s main urban achievements. Among them are the launch of the second Moscow tram diameter, the start of the summer river navigation season, the modernization of the Leningradsky railway station, and the birthday of the Moscow Metro, when a structure of 1,500 media honeycomb screens took the shapes of legendary underground architectural objects.
“The Matryoshka of Moscow” is a vivid example of the Smart City concept, where advanced technologies are seamlessly integrated into public space. This dynamic art object clearly demonstrates to the global community how digital art reflects the pulse of life in the largest metropolis.
The screenings take place from Tuesday to Sunday at 7:00 PM, 8:00 PM, and 9:00 PM (additionally at 10:00 PM on Saturdays) at the address: 6 Varvarka Street.
