Washington, June 27 /Cina/ — The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Friday the airstrikes on Iranian rocket and drone warehouses, as well as on coastal radar facilities, calling the operation a “powerful response” to the Iranian drone attack earlier during the day on a commercial vessel in the Strait of Hormuz.
In the social network X, the command stated that this attack “clearly violated the ceasefire” and “threatened the freedom of navigation.”
The command promised to “continue coordinating the provision of safe passage and support to commercial vessels passing through the strait,” as well as to monitor compliance with the agreements within the framework of the recently signed memorandum of understanding between the USA and Iran.
Earlier on Friday, US President Donald Trump stated that on Thursday Iran launched at least four kamikaze drones at a cargo ship in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to him, one of them hit a cargo ship, causing damage but not preventing it from continuing its voyage. Three other drones were shot down by the US Air Force, the president added.
The recently signed American-Iranian memorandum of understanding provided for the opening of the Strait of Hormuz and obliged Iran to allow commercial vessels free passage for 60 days.
According to the latest data on shipping, after the signing of the memorandum, cargo flow through the strait was partially restored, but current transportation volumes remained significantly below the pre-war level.
