The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Mariano Grossi, reported the completion of repairs to a key power transmission line and other energy infrastructure essential for maintaining nuclear safety at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in Ukraine. The technically complex repair and large-scale demining of the territory were carried out in the frontline zone under a local ceasefire regime achieved through IAEA mediation. Agency specialists monitored the repair, during which drone activity was recorded in the area and sounds of combat actions were heard.
War in Sudan
United Nations Deputy Secretary-General for Political Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo warned Security Council members that time to prevent a large-scale battle for Sudan’s El-Obeid is rapidly running out. According to her, over the past two weeks, the parties have expanded their use of drones, and armed formations have increased their presence in the area surrounding the city. DiCarlo stressed that a full-scale offensive could lead to new mass population displacements, further destabilize the Kordofan region, and complicate any attempts at a peaceful settlement.She called on all parties to show restraint.
