In the “Lomonosov” cluster in Moscow, the First Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration Sergey Kirienko and Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko greeted the participants of the international scientific-practical conference “Philosophy of the Future: Ideas and Meanings.”
Sergey Kiriyenko read out the address of President Vladimir Putin. “Today, in an era of rapid technological, social, and cultural changes, the value of humanitarian knowledge and the humanities is steadily increasing. There is a growing need for deep, responsible philosophical analysis of ongoing events and modern challenges. Reflecting on the future, we try to predict how a person will feel in the world of digital technologies, how our perceptions of life will change, and on what basis the interaction between people and cultures will be built,” noted the head of state.
The world is going through constant turbulence – and the questions about life, which philosophy has eternally posed, exist in ever-changing conditions, noted Sergey Kiriyenko at the conference opening ceremony. According to him, every new technological discovery multiplies not only opportunities but also challenges and responses that determine the common future of humanity.
“We are united by an image of the future — an understanding of the world we will live in. And how we respond to today’s challenges determines what the world will be like tomorrow. Currently, the demand for philosophy, logic, and the comprehension of fundamental bases and principles of life is significantly increasing. For high-tech companies, philosophers become a valuable strategic resource. Your thoughts, ideas, and beliefs genuinely change the world,” Sergey Kiriyenko emphasized.
Dmitry Chernyshenko thanked the organizer of the conference – Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov, all partners, as well as separately – the rector of MSU Viktor Sadovnichiy and the philosophical community. He emphasized that today philosophy is returning from the scientific environment to the center of public attention, since without it one cannot address the main questions of human existence. According to him, wisdom is the norm for those who make decisions, especially important for the executive branch of power.
The Deputy Prime Minister called the topic of the image of the future the most important. In the 20th century, as at all times, the world sought the only “correct” version of the future.
“However, today it becomes absolutely clear that there are many such versions, which is clearly demonstrated by contemporary history. We live in a historical moment of the collapse of global structures that until recently seemed immutable. Our President said: “Cultural-historical, civilizational specificity of different countries plays a bigger role than ever before. We need to look for points of contact and coincidence of interests. No one is ready to play by rules set by someone somewhere far away anymore.” Therefore, we must pay more attention to a deep study of values, especially of our partners. They appreciate and respond to this.””And this is undoubtedly very important for building mutually beneficial cooperation,” said Dmitry Chernyshenko.
The Deputy Prime Minister listed several global challenges that require philosophical reflection: the loss of continuity, the subjectivity of the human being in the era of global technological changes (including AI technologies), the restoration of the connection between humans and nature, the risk of civilizational cacophony.
“Civilization lives as long as it transmits its unique identity to new generations – through education, culture, family. Here, upbringing and mastery of heritage are more important than mere transmission of skills,” he added.
According to the Deputy Head of the Government, we, our children, and grandchildren are to live in conditions where human intelligence is no longer the only one on the planet. Artificial intelligence is not neutral: it is trained on someone’s data. Accordingly, this needs to be philosophically comprehended and principles of harmonious coexistence proposed. Last year, together with “Sber” and the Alliance in the field of artificial intelligence, an international foresight on the development of artificial intelligence technologies was conducted, where 270 leading scientists from around the world identified 10 key directions for the development of AI technologies.One of them is the society of Artificial Intelligence ethics. The Deputy Prime Minister urged the conference participants to familiarize themselves with the foresight report on the alliance portal.
He added that one of the priorities in the country’s Scientific and Technological Development Strategy was the President’s focus on the development of nature-like technologies.
“The main thing, what the hotel wanted to say: if there are multiple images of the future and each has its own truth, a risk of a civilizational cacophony arises, where everyone pulls their own note. This means it will seem that harmony is fundamentally unattainable, which undermines the possibility of dialogue, putting our common future into question. But it seems to me that there is a solution. The foundation of this dialogue can and already largely is our common values. In Russia, they are enshrined by a Presidential decree. We orient ourselves by it, and I am convinced that it is precisely philosophy that can keep the focus on people and the human amidst an era of change,” emphasized Dmitry Chernyshenko.
The Deputy Prime Minister also called it a “tuning fork from the point of view of morality and compliance with values, including the designation of participants of the ‘Heroes Time’ program.”
At the opening ceremony, addresses were also made by Konstantin Kosachev, Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council, Viktor Sadovnichy, Rector of Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov, and Gennady Krasnikov, President of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Note that on June 26–27, at the “Lomonosov” cluster site, for the first time an international scientific and practical conference “Philosophy of the Future: Ideas and Meanings” will be held. About 600 scientists-philosophers, researchers, practitioners, business representatives, and representatives of the technological sector from Russia and more than 30 foreign countries are participating in it. They discuss global changes occurring in the world, society, and technology, as well as innovative meanings that philosophical science can offer.
