Five people died, more than 2,000 houses were flooded as a result of floods in Dagestan

Moscow, April 7 /Xin Hua/ — Heavy rains fell on April 4-5 on the Russian Republic of Dagestan, causing flooding and mudflows. According to TASS, five people died, about 15,500 residents suffered damage. More than 2,000 residential houses were flooded in several settlements, energy infrastructure facilities were damaged, transportation communication was disrupted, landslides and destructions were recorded.

Emergency services are carrying out large-scale work to eliminate the consequences of the flooding. A partial evacuation of the population has been organized; more than 4 thousand people have been evacuated from the flooded zones, temporary accommodation points have been deployed. Humanitarian cargoes, including drinking water and food supplies, are being sent to the region.

President of Russia Vladimir Putin instructed to provide assistance to the victims and will hold a meeting on the situation. The regional authorities continue recovery work, gradually restoring power supply and transport communications. –0–
