The 28th Shanghai International Film Festival has come to an end. According to the organizers, as of the evening of June 21, this year’s film festival contributed to the creation of an economic effect of almost 5.3 billion yuan in the film industry and related sectors — transportation, hotel business, public catering, tourism, and retail trade — which is 5.97% more than last year.

According to statistics, the film festival provided an economic effect in the public catering sector of about 1.17 billion yuan and stimulated consumer spending totaling over 3 billion yuan; moreover, the economic effect significantly increased in the transport, tourism, and hotel businesses. During the film festival period, more than 70% of all tourists arriving in Shanghai came from other cities in China and from abroad specifically to participate in the film festival, which stimulated spending in accommodation, transport, and tourist attractions, and the total tourism revenue for the city amounted to almost 2.3 billion yuan.
