Tbilisi, June 26 /Sina ua/ — By 2032, about 7 billion dollars are planned to be invested in the development of Georgia’s strategic infrastructure, with the flagship project of this plan being the deep-sea port of Anaklia. This was announced on Thursday by the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Mariam Kvrivishvili, at a ceremonial event in Batumi dedicated to International Day of the Seafarer.
According to the minister, the deepwater port project Anaklia is designed to significantly strengthen the transport and logistics potential of Georgia and the entire region, as well as to promote the growth of cargo flow, create new jobs, and accelerate the country’s economic development.
“Anaklia is a symbol of new opportunities for Georgia, increasing cargo turnover, creating jobs and economic growth. This project opens up prospects for the appearance of large vessels under the Georgian flag, which will operate on international sea routes under the management of Georgian sailors,” noted M. Kvrivishvili.
The Minister also emphasized the importance of the further development of the country’s maritime sector to strengthen its economic position and increase its role in international transport communications. According to her, the development of the maritime sector will contribute to enhancing Georgia’s significance as an important transit hub on the route connecting Europe and Asia. –0–
