Urumqi, June 26 /Xin Hua/ — On Thursday in Urumqi, the administrative center of the Xinjiang-Uygur Autonomous Region /XUAR/ in northwest China, the 9th EXPO “China-Eurasia” was opened, which is intended to promote the development of trade and investment cooperation between Asia and Europe.
Representatives from 49 countries, regions, and international organizations participate in the five-day event, with 27 countries and regions having set up their own exhibition pavilions. More than 3,000 companies and institutions have registered to participate in the exhibition.
This year, the United Arab Emirates, the Republic of Korea, Russia, and Thailand are presenting their national pavilions for the first time at an event with the main theme “New Opportunities of the Silk Road — New Energy of Eurasia.” The honorary guest countries at this year’s EXPO are Kazakhstan and Pakistan.
On the EXPO with a total exhibition area of 140 thousand sq.m, six specialized exhibition zones are presented, dedicated to investment cooperation, new quality production forces, specific and competitive manufacturing industries, green development, culture and tourism, as well as cooperation within the framework of the Silk Road.
The head of the Xinjiang department for working with the international EXPO Fu Yunyuan noted that the expansion of global participation in the EXPO demonstrates greater openness of Xinjiang to the outside world.
According to its report, during the 9th EXPO “China-Eurasia” more than 80 events will be held to promote trade and investment, which will allow creating an integrated platform for Chinese and foreign enterprises and institutions so that they can receive orders, conduct negotiations on cooperation, attract investments, and develop new markets.
Xinjiang has a unique geographical advantage, it borders eight countries and has 19 state-approved border ports, which lays a solid foundation for cross-border exchanges and cooperation.
EXPO “China-Eurasia”, transformed in 2010 from the former Urumqi Fair of Foreign Trade and Economy, has turned into a national comprehensive international exhibition jointly organized by the Ministry of Commerce of the PRC, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PRC, the Chinese Committee for the Promotion of International Trade, and the People’s Government of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
According to data from the Ministry of Commerce of the PRC, in 2025 the total trade turnover between China and the Central Asian countries exceeded 100 billion dollars for the first time. The USA.
