Caracas, June 25 /Xinhua/ — At least 164 people died and 971 were injured as a result of two strong earthquakes that occurred consecutively in Venezuela, the acting president of the country, Delcy Rodríguez, reported on Thursday.
The earthquake caused about 30 aftershocks. The government is currently coordinating resources across the country to activate rescue operations in the most affected areas and has called on the private sector to assist in the procurement of rescue equipment and materials, said D. Rodriguez.
She expressed hope that the improved visibility after dawn will allow rescuers to accelerate search and rescue operations.
