June 17 inConfucius Institute NGUA solemn meeting was held to mark the end of the academic year. At the celebration, honors were awarded to excellent students and active participants, and bright events of the past year were recalled. Between the award ceremonies, guests saw creative performances prepared by students, schoolchildren, and teachers.

The event was opened by the director of the Confucius Institute of NGUYulia Azarenko. She noted that the past academic year was filled with events and gave participants new opportunities:

We have just the joyful news: 11 people are going on an internship program to Xinjiang University – this is our partner, 2 people are going on a scholarship to Beijing Petroleum University, and another 12 students will go to a summer camp in Xi’an. All this is the result of diligent study and active participation in events.

The students of the Confucius Institute themselves shared their impressions from the training. Student SUN NGUDiana ValinurovaShe has been studying Chinese for two years. This year, she prepared for the HSK 4 exam and participated in the contest “Chinese Language – It’s a Bridge.”

Learning a language is not easy: there are many hieroglyphs, and pronunciation often presents difficulties; therefore, native speakers help a lot. Thanks to them, overcoming difficulties becomes easier and faster. Participating in the “Chinese Bridge” became a very interesting and useful experience for me: I met many schoolchildren passionate about the Chinese language from all over the country,– shared Diana.

Student of the Humanities Institute of NGUIgnat Shameevhe noted that studying the Chinese language became the beginning of a great journey for him.

The Chinese language is not just complex hieroglyphs, but a vast world with an extremely interesting history and culture. My journey began with a Chinese song contest. That small victory became a huge motivation for me, and now I participate in various events and contests without fear and doubt,– he said.

During the ceremony, participants immersed themselves in the culture of China through creative performances. Confucius Institute instructor Sun Haojue performed the piece “Moonlight over the Lotus Pond” on the traditional Chinese plucked instrument guzheng. Also featured was the Chinese poem “Raising a Toast,” performed by Alexey Gutov, and the folk song “Ravnina Chile,” performed by Diana Valinurova.

Special attention was paid by the participants of the competition “Chinese language is a bridge.” According to Yulia Azarenko, preparation for such competitions requires not only deep knowledge of the language: teachers help students master artistic reading, working with props, and other skills necessary for creative performances.

The head of the export education department at NGU, Evgeny Sagaidak, spoke with a congratulatory word. He emphasized that the tradition of annually honoring the best students of the Confucius Institute has existed for many years:

We will support the best students, our partners, and develop cooperation. The schoolchildren who are being honored today, we expect to already be among the students of NGU.

At the conclusion of the event, the head of the project “Confucius Institute of NSU” from the Chinese side, Bi Xinwei, summarized the year. She stated that this year, 118 students and schoolchildren who showed diligence in studying the Chinese language and an active life position received awards:

Students and schoolchildren love the Chinese language and Chinese culture, overcoming difficulties and engaging constantly. Teachers love their work and, being far from their homeland, continue to promote the Chinese language. This sincere devotion is a precious asset of our Confucius Institute.

Chinese teachers and volunteers, who are completing their work in Novosibirsk and returning home, were also recognized within the framework of the event. A commemorative video dedicated to the joint work with the students and teachers of the Confucius Institute of NSU was prepared for them.
