Beijing, June 25 /Xin Hua/ — From January 2025 to May 2026, more than 46 thousand people in China were brought to criminal responsibility in drug-related cases, which turned out to be 30 percent less in annual terms, the Supreme People’s Procuratorate (SPP) of China reported on Thursday.

During the same period, prosecutorial authorities across the country sanctioned the arrest of approximately 29 thousand individuals suspected of involvement in drug-related crimes, which is 36 percent less in annual terms.

The UNODC noted the inevitability of continuing efforts to combat drug-related crime, since under the influence of a whole range of factors, including the penetration of drugs across the border, problems of crimes associated with new types of drugs and the abuse of uncontrolled psychoactive substances causing addiction are acute.

On Friday, June 26, the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking is observed. -0-
