Moscow, June 24 /Xin Hua/ — New media contribute to strengthening mutual understanding between peoples and play a crucial role in the modern world. This was stated on Tuesday by the Ambassador of the PRC to Russia, Zhang Hanhui.
The head of the Chinese diplomatic mission made a corresponding statement at the ceremony of the solemn opening of the new media content competition “Creativity overcomes mountains and seas, friendship between China and Russia aspires to the future.” The event was attended by more popular Russian bloggers, specialists in the field of new media, journalists of leading media outlets, and young content makers.
“New media is the most important channel for strengthening mutual understanding between peoples. It is a new bridge for the mutual enrichment of civilizations, a growing force of people-to-people diplomacy,” noted Zhang Hanwei.
The Chinese diplomat reminded that the current year is a remarkable and multifaceted year. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of China-Russia partnership relations and strategic interaction, and the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty on Good-Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation between China and the Russian Federation. In the same year, the Cross Years of China-Russia Cooperation in the Field of Education begin.
In May of this year, the President of Russia Vladimir Putin continued his visit by making a successful official visit to China. The heads of the two states held substantive and deep negotiations, solemnly opening the Year of Cooperation in the field of education. By doing so, they elevated the development of Chinese-Russian relations to a comprehensive partnership and strategic interaction in a new era — an even more dynamic and promising stage, the ambassador added.
Zhang Hanxue stated with satisfaction that practical cooperation between Russia and China is reaching a qualitatively new level. China confidently consolidates its status as Russia’s largest trading partner, interaction in the energy sector is developing consistently and fruitfully along the entire production chain, and humanitarian exchanges continue to serve as a reliable bridge for mutual understanding, he added.
As the post noted, the total number of Chinese students in Russia and Russians in China has already exceeded 80 thousand, and the number of mutual trips last year surpassed the threshold of 7 million. The Chinese side has extended the visa-free regime for Russian citizens until the end of 2027, thereby once again confirming its unwavering commitment to creating the most favorable conditions for lively, natural, and good-neighborly communication between the peoples of the two countries.
According to Zhang Hanxue, the joint launch by the Chinese Embassy and the VKontakte holding of the media projects competition will be an important step in the development of Chinese-Russian cooperation in the field of new media. “We are creating a new, open platform for creators from both countries to showcase talents, communicate, and mutually exchange experiences. This marks another important achievement on the path of developing Chinese-Russian cooperation in the field of new media,” he emphasized.
The ambassador wished Russian bloggers and content creators in the new media sphere to be truthful “witnesses” of present-day China. “Each of you has a wide audience, thousands and millions of subscribers, and you have a huge influence on how people see China. I invite you personally to get acquainted with China, to capture reality through the camera lens, to show China without embellishments and distortions — as it really is. Let more and more Russian citizens see the true face of our country,” noted Zhang Hanzhuo.
According to him, ultimately interstate relations are based on relations between people — on trust, respect, and mutual sympathy. “We hope that, using your unique opportunities in creating and distributing content, you will be able to turn warm, touching stories of communication between ordinary citizens of China and Russia into a common memory of millions of people sitting in front of screens.” –0–
