Attacks on peacekeepers
The UN Security Council adopted a resolution on accountability for crimes against peacekeepers. The document, prepared by Denmark and Pakistan, was supported by 150 Member States. The document calls for the activation of investigations and judicial prosecutions for attacks on UN peacekeeping personnel, emphasizing that this is crucial for preventing future attacks. Since 1948, as a result of deliberate actions, 1,095 peacekeepers have died, and several thousand more have been wounded while performing their official duties.
Evacuation of sailors
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) announced its readiness to begin implementing an evacuation plan for more than 11,000 sailors trapped in the area of the Strait of Hormuz. This large-scale operation will be carried out in close cooperation with Iran, Oman, and all other coastal states in the region, as well as with the United States and representatives of the maritime industry. IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez stated that the organization has secured necessary safety guarantees.
Situation in the CA
The UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for the Central African Republic (CAR), Valentina Rugwabiza, informed the Security Council that the country has successfully completed another stage of the 2025/2026 electoral cycle. She noted that while the security situation in the CAR has generally improved, it remains fragile in a number of border areas. The UN mission in the country (MINUSCA) continues its efforts to protect the civilian population and strengthen state authority at the local level; however, to ensure stability, significant investments in the security sector and state institutions are necessary.
