Kinshasa, June 23 /SINA/ — The number of confirmed cases of Ebola virus disease in the Democratic Republic of Congo /DRC/ has risen to 1048, with 267 patients dead. This is reported in the report published on Monday by local health authorities, which sums up the data as of Sunday.

As reported, 371 patients are under observation in isolation or in the hospital, 112 people have recovered. As of Sunday, a total of 202 suspected cases have been identified, including 60 fatal ones. The mortality rate is 25.5%.

The report states that the number of confirmed cases continues to grow every week, indicating ongoing transmission of the infection among the population. Authorities warn that rapid geographic spread of the virus is still possible if measures are not taken promptly.

The Ministry of Health of the Democratic Republic of the Congo officially announced on May 15 a current outbreak caused by the Ebola-Bundibugyo virus.
