Jerusalem, June 23 /Xinua/ — The Israel Defense Forces /IDF/ will continue to operate with the goal of neutralizing the “threats” in southern Lebanon, despite ongoing diplomatic efforts to facilitate negotiations between the USA and Iran and de-escalate regional tensions. This was jointly announced on Monday by the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister of Israel, Benny Gantz, and the Chief of the IDF General Staff, Eyal Zamir.
According to him, the military will continue to act to neutralize “threats to Israeli soldiers and civilians,” eliminate militants’ infrastructure and combatants wounded in the “security zone” in southern Lebanon.
This statement was made shortly after the completion of the first session of negotiations between the USA and Iran, which took place in Switzerland with the mediation of Pakistan and Qatar.
On Monday, mediators announced an “encouraging” result, including a roadmap for achieving a final deal within 60 days, as well as mechanisms to ensure the safety of commercial navigation through the Strait of Hormuz and the cessation of hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah.
According to reports, on Saturday B. Netanyahu and I. Katz ordered the army to cease fire in Lebanon. On Sunday, I. Katz emphasized that the IDF does not intend to leave the ‘security zone’ in southern Lebanon. –0–
