Overall price growth in April-May was low, largely due to a noticeable decrease in the prices of some goods with large price fluctuations (vegetables and fruits).
Goods, the prices of which mainly depend on demand rather than temporary factors, on average became more expensive at a moderate pace or even cheaper in May. This was partly due to the strengthening of the ruble. Prices decreased for imported used cars and perfumery and cosmetic products. Cleaning and washing products, electrical goods and household appliances, communication devices, radio and television equipment, tools and equipment continued to become cheaper.
At the same time, service prices have continued to rise at a high pace. Unlike non-food goods, consumption of many types of services (for example, educational, medical, household) is difficult to postpone. And since demand for services outpaces the ability to increase supply due to staff shortages, rapid price growth in services is currently ongoing.
