Washington, June 21 /Xinhua/ — US President Donald Trump on Sunday made threats addressed to Iran in connection with the situation around the Strait of Hormuz against the backdrop of the start of negotiations between the two countries in Switzerland.

In a telephone interview with Fox News, D. Trump stated that the United States “can take the spill under its control if necessary.”

Moreover, D. Trump indicated that in the event of a failure in negotiations with Iran, Washington will charge a 20 percent fee on the oil transported through the Strait of Hormuz. By February 28, when the USA and Israel conducted massive strikes on Iran, about one-fifth of the world’s oil supplies passed through the strait.

On Saturday, Tehran announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz due to ongoing Israeli strikes on Lebanon.

Earlier on Sunday, D. Trump also warned that Iran could be subjected to similar or more powerful strikes if it does not stop the actions of the “Hezbollah” movement, which, as the US President expressed, “creates problems.”

“Iran must immediately stop the highly paid forces it controls in Lebanon from causing problems,” D. Trump wrote on his social network Truth Social. “Otherwise, we will strike Iran very hard again, just like last week, only even harder.” –0–
