Tehran/Beirut, June 20 /Sina/ — The central headquarters of the armed forces of Iran “Khatam al-Anbiya” on Saturday announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, citing a “violation” by the United States of a recently signed memorandum of understanding on peace and a “non-compliance” by Israel with the ceasefire regime in southern Lebanon. This was reported by the semi-official Iranian news agency Mehr.

Meanwhile, according to the information agency citing the official representative of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Esmail Baghaei, the Iranian negotiation delegation will leave Tehran for Switzerland in the next few minutes.

According to the report of the Iranian semi-official news agency Fars, the delegation intends to achieve the fulfillment of the obligations of the United States, including forcing Israel to cease strikes on Lebanon.

Earlier that same day, the National Information Agency of Lebanon reported that at least five people were killed as a result of a series of Israeli airstrikes and drone attacks carried out in the southern part of Lebanon on the night of Saturday and in the first half of the day. The Israeli Defense Forces, in turn, stated that during the night the “Hezbollah” movement fired more than 50 shells at Israeli soldiers in southern Lebanon.

The corresponding events occurred contrary to the ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and Israel, which came into effect on the afternoon of June 19. An earlier memorandum of understanding had been signed between the USA and Iran, aimed at ending conflicts in all directions, including the Lebanese one.
