Presentation of student improvement projects
Students of the Saint Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering took part in the “Wonderful Neighbor” neighborhood festival. The festival was organized by the management company “Terra” and active residents of the Vasileostrovsky district of Petersburg in the courtyard of house No. 43–45 on Morskaya Embankment. Over six hours of the festival, more than 300 people attended.
The event united residents of the district, representatives of the professional community, and students around the idea of forming a comfortable, environmentally friendly urban environment that will contribute to the development of recreational spaces and the preservation of biodiversity in the residential area.
As part of the festival, students of the Department of Landscape Architecture presented an exhibition of landscape concepts “Quarter of the Future”, dedicated to the memory of the Doctor of Architecture, Professor of SPbGASU.Valery Anatolyevich Nefyodov.The exhibition included student projects demonstrating modern approaches to the development of a residential quarter territory, taking into account the wishes of the residents and current architectural and landscape trends.
The presented concepts are based on the idea of a comfortable and functional courtyard space, comparable in terms of convenience to the living environment of an apartment. The design solutions cover the entire path of the resident—from the entrance group and stairwell to the well-equipped green zone with perennial flower compositions, flowering trees, evergreen shrubs, decorative bushes, and modern children’s playgrounds.
Special attention in the project is given to the formation of a unified design code for the urban environment. The proposed solutions contribute to the development of local spatial identity and the formation of ecological and creative thinking among residents of different ages.
The semantic center of the “Quarter of the Future” became the Teacher’s Garden, established during the lifetime of Valery Nefyodov. According to the author’s intention, the garden performs a therapeutic function and is maintained by local residents. This green oasis in the urban environment is an example of careful interaction between humans and nature.
As noted by the postgraduate student of the Department of Urban Planning at SPBGASU, a student of Valery Anatolyevich and co-organizer of the “Quarter of the Future” projectSvetlana Danilova,The Teacher’s Garden has become a growth point for the development of the entire neighborhood: “The fact that this space continues to live and attract people, initiatives, creative energy to itself is an extremely important experience. This experience of territorial development with the participation of active residents and other interested parties cannot be scaled up unambiguously. Comfort should not end with the threshold of an apartment: the opportunity to interact with nature next to the house, to see the aesthetics and functional diversity of the urban environment directly affects the quality of life.”
According to Svetlana Danilova, Valery Nefyodov’s scientific and pedagogical activities were dedicated to seeking a balance between urbanization and the living nature of cities. The architectural-landscape school he created is based on high aesthetic design standards, an ecosystemic approach to greening, and the use of modern technologies to improve the quality of the urban environment. The followers of the prominent scientist’s ideas are the teachers.Department of Landscape Architecture SPbGASU. Future landscape architects will acquire interdisciplinary competencies in the fields of botany, ecology, soil science, and chemistry, developing projects that correspond to the principles of sustainable development and the modern societal demands for a safe, ecological, and attractive living environment.
