Minsk, June 18 /Xin Hua/ — A solemn ceremony was held in Minsk to mark the 20th anniversary of the Republican Institute of Chinese Studies named after Confucius of the Belarusian State University (BSU). Representatives of the political, educational, and cultural circles of China and Belarus participated in the event. The participants summed up the results of the institute’s work over two decades in the field of popularizing the Chinese language and developing humanitarian exchanges between the two countries, as well as discussed the prospects for teaching the Chinese language in Belarus.
At the event, the Minister of Education of Belarus, Andrei Ivanets, noted the importance of the institute’s contribution to strengthening bilateral relations. “Today, Belarus and China have reached the highest level of comprehensive and all-round strategic partnership. I would like to thank those teachers who have taught young people Chinese for two decades. The Confucius Institute for Chinese Studies named after Confucius at BSU is not only a center for studying the Chinese language but also a sociocultural center creating a bridge between our countries and peoples,” said A. Ivanets.
The Deputy Minister of Education of the Kyrgyz Republic, Van Guanyanyan, emphasized in his speech that thanks to the strategic leadership of the leaders of the two countries, the China-Belarusian relations of comprehensive and all-round strategic partnership reach a high level of stable development. Traditional friendship between the peoples is strengthening, political trust remains unshakable, and cooperation in various fields is actively developing.Over 20 years of its existence, the Confucius Institute of Chinese Studies at BSU, thanks to quality teaching and sincere communication, has trained tens of thousands of Chinese language learners, playing an important role in strengthening mutual trust and friendship between peoples, as well as in the development of bilateral relations.
The Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the PRC to Belarus, Zhang Wenquan, noted that over two decades the institute has become a large-scale structure that unites a network of teaching Chinese language in schools and universities throughout Belarus. He expressed confidence that the institute will continue to develop, preparing new personnel proficient in Chinese and deeply understanding Chinese culture, and will make a new contribution to strengthening friendship between China and Belarus.The embassy will continue to comprehensively support the development of the Confucius Institute, contribute to improving the quality of Chinese language teaching, and deepen humanitarian exchanges.
The director of the Confucius Institute of Chinese Studies at BSU, former Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Anatoly Tozik emphasized that the institute has served the cause of comprehensive cooperation between countries, deepening friendship among peoples, mutual understanding, and trust for 20 years. Thousands of Belarusians have learned the Chinese language and touched the greatness of Chinese culture and history.
This Confucius Institute was established jointly by Dalian Polytechnic University and BSU. The rector of Dalian Polytechnic University Gao Xian noted in his speech that twenty years ago, thanks to the favorable dynamics of deepening Chinese-Belarusian friendly relations, the first Confucius Institute in Belarus took root and established itself. Both universities combined their efforts and moved towards each other, jointly opening a new chapter in the field of linguistic mutual understanding, cultural enrichment, and educational cooperation between China and Belarus.Dalian Polytechnic University intends to further deepen strategic cooperation with BSU, elevating collaboration in the field of scientific innovations, personnel training, and humanitarian exchanges to a new level.
During the solemn ceremony, a number of documents were signed, including an agreement between the Ministry of Education of Belarus and the Ministry of Education of the PRC on cooperation in the field of teaching the Chinese language. The parties also signed an agreement between the Ministry of Education of Belarus and the Center for International Linguistic Education and Cooperation of the Ministry of Education of the PRC on cooperation in establishing a Basic Center for training and professional development of Chinese language teachers in Belarus.An agreement was signed between the Confucius Institute Foundation for International Support of Chinese Language Teaching, the Belarusian State University, and Dalian Polytechnic University on joint cooperation to ensure the activities and development of the Republican Institute of Chinese Studies named after Confucius at BSU.
