Washington, June 17 /Xinhua/ — US government representatives on Wednesday published the full text of a 14-point memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran, which is expected to be officially signed on Friday in Switzerland, the media reported.
After several days of secrecy, high-ranking U.S. officials anonymously disclosed to journalists the text of a document project reached last week, the Associated Press agency reported.
According to the text of the memorandum of understanding, published by CNN, the United States and Iran agreed to “announce the immediate and final cessation of military operations on all fronts” and to “refrain from threats or use of force against each other.”
Both parties also undertake to respect each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and to agree on a final agreement within 60 days.
The United States will immediately begin lifting its maritime blockade and gradually easing sanctions and restrictions against Iran after the document is signed, while Iran confirms that it “will not acquire or develop nuclear weapons.”
Washington is also obliged to work with partners in the Persian Gulf region on a plan for the reconstruction and economic development of Iran with a cost of at least 300 billion dollars.
While awaiting the final agreement, both parties agreed to preserve the status quo and avoid escalatory measures, with Iran keeping its nuclear program untouched, and the United States agreeing not to “impose any new sanctions or deploy additional forces in the region.”
The concluding point of the memorandum states that the final agreement will be approved by a mandatory resolution of the UN Security Council.
