Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev held a meeting on the issue of the upcoming fire season. It was attended by the head of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations Alexander Kurenkov, the Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology Alexander Kozlov, heads of Roslesoz, Rosvodresursy, Roshydromet, and other specialized agencies, as well as regional heads.
“The spring stage of the fire hazard season is over. It can be stated that the area burned by fire is now three times less compared to 2025. And most importantly, it was possible to avoid human casualties and damage to infrastructure. The measures that were developed, including within the framework of our all-Russian headquarters, allow for fairly effective control of the situation with natural fires,” said Dmitry Patrushev.
Nevertheless, the peak of the fire hazard season has not yet passed. According to forecasts by Roshydromet, the greatest danger during the summer period is expected in the Far East and Siberia. In addition, the central part of the country is also at risk.
Post-season, each federal district has established its own headquarters that monitor the situation on the ground. Dmitry Patrushev has instructed to hold regular meetings until the end of the season. Additionally, monitoring is carried out by special commissions at the level of plenipotentiary representatives of the President, which also positively affects interdepartmental interaction.
“For the prevention and fight against forest fires in 2026, the Government of Russia has allocated record funding – almost 27 billion rubles. The funds are provided for the creation and strengthening of aviation units, strengthening and material-technical base, formation of firebreaks, as well as for aviation patrols. Additionally, 19 subjects will receive extra funds in 2026 for activities related to prevention and liquidation of fires. I expect that all plans will be fully implemented,” Dmitry Patrushev added.
The Deputy Prime Minister reminded that the effectiveness of fighting fires directly depends on the prompt detection of the hotspots. In spring, 9 out of 10 fires were extinguished within the first 24 hours. Comprehensive measures must also be taken to stabilize the situation.
For monitoring, it is important to use the most modern technologies. Unmanned aviation systems can assist in this.
In addition, Dmitry Patrushev instructed the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, together with “Roscosmos”, to expand the capabilities of Earth’s remote sensing systems for monitoring forest fire situations.
Head of Rosleshoz Ivan Sovetnikov spoke about the dynamics of active forest fires, the situation in the most burning region, and the measures being taken at the start of the summer season to prevent risks. In particular, the tense situation has developed in the Krasnoyarsk Territory. To assess the situation on site, jointly with the regional coordination of work and the possible adoption of additional measures, Dmitry Patrushev instructed the head of Rosleshoz to fly to the subject in the near future.
Following the results of the meeting, Dmitry Patrushev set a task for Roshydromet to deliver relevant forecasts to the interested parties within the shortest possible time. The regions, in turn, should promptly respond to all fires without exception. Special attention must be paid to the situation in traditionally high-fire risk subjects of the Russian Federation.
The separate control by the Vice Premier was entrusted with the implementation of preventative measures at the local level – in social infrastructure facilities, energy, transport, and land designated for rural purposes, which share a common boundary with forests. In addition, it is important to strengthen fire safety measures in territories under the jurisdiction of the Russian Railways, Rosseti, and Rosavtodor.
The regulatory framework for allocating funding to combat forest fires will also be analyzed and adjusted by specialized agencies.
At the meeting, Dmitry Patrushev specifically addressed the governor of Krasnodar Krai, Veniamin Kondratyev, and touched upon the issue of the complex hydrological situation in the region caused by heavy rainfall. The head of the region reported that at the moment the situation is under control, and all necessary measures have been taken.
