Motorists are increasingly choosing high-speed roads for trips on weekends and holidays. This allows them to reach their destinations quickly, comfortably, and safely. In particular, traffic intensity has increased on the M-12 “Vostok” highway. Thus, over the past holiday weekends, drivers made more than 472 thousand trips on the section from Moscow to Kazan. This was reported by Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin.
“At present, domestic tourism is actively developing in Russia. People are discovering new locations for recreation and getting acquainted with the cultural characteristics of the regions. A well-developed road network helps to reach these places, primarily high-speed highways. Traditionally, on weekends and holidays, there is observed an increase in traffic intensity on the highway. A vivid example is the M-12 “Vostok” route, in the zone of influence of which 24 subjects (regions) are located. Thus, over the past weekends, drivers on various routes on the section from Moscow to Kazan have made more than 472 thousand trips.”Overall, about 65 million kilometers have been driven by motorists on this road in recent days. On June 11, on the eve of Russia Day, a record was set in the entire history of the route: on this day, nearly 71 thousand trips were recorded on the Balashikha ring road both in the forward and return directions, Marat Khusnullin said.
The Chairman of the Board of the state company “Avtodor” Vyacheslav Petushenko noted that the increase in traffic during the holidays is also due to the developed infrastructure of high-speed highways.
“It is important for us that the road network meets the requirements of users. For this, we work daily on creating conditions for comfortable travel. Our high-speed routes have no intersections and ground pedestrian crossings; all of them are equipped with intelligent transport systems, which ensures high traffic safety and throughput capacity. Thanks to this, high-speed roads are becoming increasingly in demand among motorists. For example, compared to last year, the total traffic growth on the M-12 “Vostok” from Moscow to Kazan was about 20%.”This is an indicator not only of tourist but also of business activity. Thus, our roads open new opportunities for the development of regions,” noted Vyacheslav Petushenko.
