Beijing, June 17 /Xin Hua/ — The number of new drug addicts under the age of 35 identified in China in 2025 decreased by more than 40% compared to the previous year, which indicates increasing awareness among young people about the risks of drug abuse, it was reported on Wednesday at a press conference held by the Office of the State Committee for Drug Control of the PRC.
As stated by the deputy chairman of this office, the head of the Department for Combating Illegal Drug Trafficking of the Ministry of Public Security of the PRC, the number of people under 35 years old who were found to be using narcotic substances last year decreased by 41.6 percent on an annual basis.
These data were made public against the backdrop of China’s intensified efforts to combat drug crime and prevent substance abuse through conducting law enforcement campaigns, educational work, and international cooperation.
Wei Xiaojun also reported that in 2025, about 27 thousand criminal cases related to drugs were opened in China, 41 thousand suspects were detained, and 33.5 tons of drugs were seized.
According to him, over the past year, anti-narcotic agencies across the country continued to strengthen a comprehensive approach to solving problems related to drugs, developed international cooperation in the field of drug control, and achieved new success in the country’s anti-narcotic activities.
