Inchuan, June 16 /Xinhua/ — Vice Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China Gochun spoke via video link at a special summit dedicated to combating the Ebola virus epidemic in Africa on Tuesday.
Lü Gochun, also a member of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau, stated that the important concept of building a community with a shared future for mankind and the initiative to build a community of hygiene and health for all mankind have defined the direction of international anti-epidemic cooperation.
Noting that China and Africa inevitably represent a community of shared destiny, Liu Guchun emphasized that China has already provided emergency humanitarian aid to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and the African Union, and has also sent medical specialist teams to the DRC.
Moreover, according to him, nearly 1,000 Chinese medical workers, working in African countries, shoulder to shoulder with the local population, are participating in the fight against the disease.
The Vice Premier of the State Council indicated that China is ready to provide Africa with additional medical support within the framework of the China-Africa Cooperation Forum and calls on the international community to strengthen unity and cooperation, increasing assistance to African states.
The meeting was chaired by the President of Burundi, the current Chairman of the African Union, Evariste Ndayishimiye. It was attended by heads of state and government from more than ten African countries, including South Africa, Equatorial Guinea, and Zimbabwe. In addition, representatives of international and regional organizations were present, such as the World Health Organization, as well as African partners from other regions of the world.
