From June 1 to 5, as part of a summer engineering intensive, which is held annually at this educational institution for in-depth study of modern technologies, senior students of Saint Petersburg Engineering and Technology School No. 777 visited the Saint Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering. School No. 777 is a new form of education based on the development of engineering, technical, creative, and scientific competencies in students already during their secondary education. SPbGASU and the school are connected by a cooperation agreement.

Opening the intensive, the school principal Vera Knyazeva wished her students productive work: “These two weeks are your chance to try yourself in a real business, get acquainted with engineering specialties, and make a step towards a conscious choice of profession.”

At our university, guests were introduced to laboratories, the scientific and technical library, the architectural faculty workshops, the Educational Center for Digital Competencies, and the Educational Project-Based Learning Center.

The main time of the visit to the university was devoted to the practical part of the intensive course “Creating an information model of architectural solutions for a residential building in Renga Professional software.” Under the guidance of a senior lecturer of the Department of Information Technology and Mathematical ModelingOlga SvetlovaBy the end of the second day of training, the high school students were already able to create their own cottage project.

Specialist of the Educational Center for Digital CompetenciesYuriy Zgodaheld a lecture for schoolchildren “Fundamentals of visualization of informational models of buildings in virtual reality.” As a practice, with the help of VR helmets, the schoolchildren looked into the very buildings that were designed by them.

In addition, within the framework of the course “Application of large language models for the generation of architectural and construction designs,” problems and prospects of applying large language models in architecture were studied. Students learned to write prompts for various neural networks, tried their hand at VAE coding, studied the obtained results, and analyzed the advantages and disadvantages of different automated modeling software.

As a result of the engineering intensive at the Educational Center for Project Training of SPbGASU, project defenses prepared by high school students took place. “We are confident that we will be able to apply the practical skills gained both in everyday life and in further education at our school,” expressed the general opinion of one of the guests.

All participants of the annual summer engineering intensive at SPbGASU received certificates for the successful completion of the project “Cottage in Renga Professional. From simple to complex.”

“Schoolchildren easily grasped the new design program and already on the second day of training designed cottages. At the defense, we received not only beautifully presented works, but also many positive reviews about the intensive. Thanks to the interest and genuine enthusiasm of the students themselves, they were able to do even more than planned. Such events help lay the foundation for a conscious choice of profession and build the future in the present,” noted Olga Svetlova.
