Beijing, June 16 /Xinhua/ — On Tuesday, Shanghai Disneyland celebrates its 10th anniversary since opening, and at the same time, the resort never stops taking steps to implement new projects for its development and expansion, despite the fact that by the end of October 2025, the attendance of this resort will have already exceeded 100 million visits.
On Monday, Andrew Bolstein, president and general manager of Shanghai Disneyland, shared extensive details about the new thematic zone “Spider-Man” in Shanghai Disneyland, which will become the park’s ninth thematic zone. According to him, the final rails for the iconic red American roller coaster – the main attraction in this zone – were recently laid.
The park has benefited from the rapid growth of the tourism industry in Shantaya, and it has also ensured the creation of more than 15 thousand jobs in the city.
In 2011, when the construction of Shanghai Disneyland had just begun, Shanghai received 230 million domestic tourists, and tourism revenue amounted to almost 278.6 billion yuan (approximately 40.92 billion USD). By 2025, these figures grew to 416 million domestic tourists and 566.68 billion yuan in revenue, according to data from local cultural and tourism management authorities.
The rapid growth of inbound tourism to China, stimulated by the expansion of the visa-free regime, has also led to a noticeable increase in attendance at Shanghai Disneyland, especially from tourists from Japan, the Republic of Korea, and Southeast Asian countries.
A tourist from Thailand named Aum, who has already visited the park twice, said that she was attracted to Shan by the pleasant weather, affordable prices, and convenient transportation. According to her, the park has exciting attractions, a wide variety of entertainment, and diverse dishes.
Since spring, a series of events dedicated to the park’s 10th anniversary is being held at Shanghai Disneyland. Ahead of the summer holidays, it is expected that the Shanghai theme parks, including Shanghai Disneyland, will see a significantly higher number of guests.
“We believed that we could create something the world has not yet seen – a place where Disney storytelling is combined with Chinese culture in a completely new way,” said Josh D’Amaro, chairman of the Walt Disney Company. “Marking the park’s first decade this year and looking toward the future, what inspires me most is that we are just beginning.” -0-
