Tianjin, June 16 /Xinhua/ — The Danish pharmaceutical giant Novo Nordisk announced on Monday that it is investing an additional 200 million yuan (about 29.4 million USD) in its manufacturing base in the city of Tianjin (Northern China) to expand the production of pharmaceutical drugs and increase capacity for the assembly and manufacture of injection pens.
After the completion of the project to increase production capacities, the production capabilities and efficiency of supplies of the corresponding products will be further enhanced, which will allow better satisfaction of the growing and diversified demand for pharmaceuticals in the Chinese market, the company reported.
The Novo Nordisk company’s manufacturing complex, located in the Technological-Economic Development Zone (TEDA) of Tianjin, is one of the company’s strategically global manufacturing centers supplying injection devices and finished pharmaceutical products to China and other markets.
As a key element of Novo Nordisk’s global supply system, the factory in Tianjin will continue to produce innovative products locally, said Kasper Bedkær Mejlvang, Executive Vice President of Global Manufacturing and Supply at Novo Nordisk, adding that these investments also demonstrate the company’s commitment to strengthening its presence and ensuring long-term development in China.
