Beijing, June 15 /Xinhua/ — The National Headquarters for Flood Control and Drought Relief of the PRC on Monday raised the emergency response level to floods from the fourth to the third in Guangdong Province and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in southern China, the Ministry of Emergency Management of the PRC reported.
This headquarters also extended the level four rapid response mode for flooding in the provinces of Fujian, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, and Hunan.
China has a four-level emergency response system, where the first level is the most serious.
Since June 13, heavy rains have fallen on the central and eastern parts of the Guangxi-Zhuang Autonomous Region, as well as the northern, central, and eastern districts of Guangdong Province, with precipitation amounts in some places exceeding 600 mm.
It is expected that from Monday to Tuesday heavy precipitation will continue in some of the above-mentioned regions. The National Meteorological Center of the CPR announced a “yellow” level warning at 10:00 on Monday due to the threat of heavy rains.
The working groups previously directed by the office of the specified headquarters continue their work in the provinces of Guangdong and Fujian, and an additional group was sent to Guangxi to provide assistance and lead flood control efforts on the front lines. -0-
