Tehran, June 13 /Xin Hua/ — The mourning ceremonies for the late leader of Iran, Ali Khamenei, will begin on July 4 in Tehran. Iranian media reported this on Saturday.
According to the statement of the headquarters for organizing events in memory of A. Khamenei, published by Iranian media, the farewell ceremonies will take place on July 4-5 at the religious and cultural complex of the Great Mosalla Imam Khomeini in Tehran. Then on July 6-7, in the capital and the holy city of Qom, mourning processions will be held.
The statement notes that the concluding coronation ceremony will take place on July 9 in the city of Mashhad in the northeast of the country. After this, on the same day, Ali Khamenei will be crowned in the mausoleum of Imam Reza—the eighth Shiite Imam—in the same city.
The former long-time supreme leader of Iran, Ali Khamenei, was killed as a result of a joint American-Israeli airstrike on February 28. At the beginning of March, his son Mojtaba Khamenei was elected the new supreme leader of Iran.
