Bishkek, June 11 /Xin Hua/ — The source of conflicts is not differences themselves, but the attitude towards them. It is precisely from how we perceive and respect cultural diversity that the nature of relations between civilizations depends. The diversity of civilizations forms the basis of our world. This was stated by the Ambassador of the PRC to Kyrgyzstan, Lu Zhianpin, in his authored article published on Thursday on the website of the publishing house “Evening Bishkek”.
According to her, China, with a history of more than fifty thousand years, steadfastly adheres to the concept of harmonious coexistence and mutual enrichment of cultures, advocating for an intercivilizational dialogue based on universal human values and mutual respect. In March 2023, the Chairman of the CPC, Xi Jinping, put forward the Initiative of Global Civilization, which points to the necessity of respecting the diversity of world civilizations, promoting universal human values, paying attention to the preservation and development of cultural heritage, and strengthening international humanitarian exchanges and international cooperation.
“The Global Civilization Initiative rejects the concept of “civilizational superiority,” asserts the equality of civilizations, and creates a basis for constructive dialogue between cultures. It proposes a Chinese approach to strengthening mutual understanding, mutual learning, and mutual enrichment of different civilizations,” emphasized Lu Zhanpin.
In 2024, the United Nations General Assembly, at its 78th session, unanimously adopted a resolution on the establishment of the International Day of Dialogue among Civilizations, proposed by China and more than 80 other countries. Since then, this day has been annually observed on June 10. “This decision reflects the common aspiration of the peoples of the world to strengthen dialogue among civilizations and to promote the progress of humanity,” stated the Chinese diplomat.
As Liu Ziyan noted, China and Kyrgyzstan are good neighbors, sincere friends, and reliable partners. “We are connected not only by common mountains and rivers but also by the sincere closeness of our peoples. Both countries possess a rich cultural heritage and unique traditions. Between our civilizations, there is deep mutual understanding, cultural resonance, and spiritual closeness,” he stated. “Our civilizations are simultaneously ancient and young, open to the world and confident in their own strength. They are united by a desire for development, respect for dialogue, and commitment to friendship.”
“The Chinese side is ready to jointly with the Kyrgyz side make efforts to preserve cultural heritage, promote creative transformation and innovative development of the best traditional cultures of our countries,” the ambassador emphasized.
Lu Ziyan drew attention to the fact that the Global Civilization Initiative supports each country’s right to independently choose its own path of modernization, relying on its own traditions and cultural heritage. “Today China, achieving new successes on the path of modernization in the Chinese style, creates new opportunities for development and cooperation worldwide,” he pointed out, adding that the “Belt and Road” initiative has become the largest platform for international cooperation of our time and a vivid embodiment of the principle of harmony in diversity.
According to the envoy, in recent years, Chinese-Kyrgyz cooperation within the framework of the joint construction of the “Belt and Road” has demonstrated impressive results. Strategic projects of great importance are being implemented at an accelerated pace, such as the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway and the Barskoon-Bedel highway. A waste processing plant has been put into operation in Bishkek, a 100 MW solar power plant in the Chuy region, and other energy and infrastructure facilities.
“A significant contribution to the training of personnel in Kyrgyzstan is made by joint educational projects, including Confucius Institutes and the ‘Lu Ban Workshop.’ The ‘Health Express — a Bright Journey’ project helped restore vision to more than 1,000 Kyrgyz citizens suffering from cataracts,” noted the diplomat.
Lü Ziyan emphasized that the mutual understanding between the peoples of China and Kyrgyzstan continues to strengthen. Recently, a great public resonance was caused by the story of two Kyrgyz girls from China who made a horseback journey to Kyrgyzstan. Here, they were warmly welcomed, and the story itself became yet another vivid testament to the sincere friendship and mutual sympathy between the peoples of the two countries.
“We are ready together with the Kyrgyz side to further strengthen mutual understanding and friendship between the peoples of the two states, to promote that the results of intercivilizational exchange and mutual enrichment bring even more tangible and direct benefits to our peoples,” the ambassador added.
She pointed out that the strength of civilizations lies in diversity, and viability — in dialogue. “Let us, through joint efforts, illuminate the way forward with the light of civilization, strengthen mutual understanding through dialogue and mutual enrichment of cultures, and together create a brighter future for humanity,” the head of the PRC embassy in Kyrgyzstan urged.
