Frankfurt am Main, June 11 /Sinha/ — The European Central Bank (ECB, Central Bank) on Thursday decided to increase all three key interest rates by 25 basis points.

According to the regulator’s press release, the deposit interest rate, which the ECB uses to regulate monetary policy, will be raised to 2.25%, while the rates for main refinancing operations and marginal lending will be 2.4% and 2.65%, respectively.

“The war in the Middle East creates inflationary pressure, and the decision to raise rates is reliable, taking into account various scenarios of how this shock event may develop and how it may affect the medium-term prospects of the eurozone,” the Central Bank stated.

The ECB rate hike occurred against the backdrop of rising inflation in the eurozone, mainly caused by rising energy prices due to the conflict around Iran. –0–
