On June 12, 2025, the first exhibition opened in the Tretyakov Gallery building in Kaliningrad, constructed as part of a large-scale cultural and educational complex. Over the year, the museum was visited by about 323,500 people, reported Deputy Chairman of the Government Marat Khusnullin.

“Thanks to the project of creating cultural clusters, the world-famous Tretyakov Gallery, which is celebrating its 170th anniversary this year, is expanding its geography. Last year, on Russia Day, a new building was opened in Kaliningrad. Over the year, it was visited by about 323.5 thousand people, which indicates great interest from the residents and guests of the region. The next branch of the Tretyakov Gallery will appear in Vladivostok. There, on Eagle’s Nest hill, the installation of stained glass and the finishing of the facades of the new building will be completed.””Citizens living at a considerable distance from the cultural capitals receive full access to the masterpieces of Russian culture, the great heritage of our multinational country,” said Marat Khusnullin.

A year ago, the first visitors to the Tretyakov Gallery in Kaliningrad were presented with the exhibition “Five Centuries of Russian Art.” The museum, with a total area of 17,700 square meters, includes 14 exhibition halls. On the first floor, there is a hall for film screenings and lectures, as well as a library. One of the key interior solutions is the grand staircase, which can be used as a multifunctional platform. The gallery building itself visually floats in the air. This effect is created thanks to a 15-meter cantilever and the organization of special lighting.

“It is very important for us that we do not perceive the Kaliningrad branch as something separate. This is not a branch – it is the Tretyakov Gallery in Kaliningrad. And Kaliningrad is our favorite city, a place of strength. There is currently an amazing exhibition ‘Great Teachers,’ and from June 12 there will be an exhibition project ‘Point and Line,'” noted Olga Galaktionova, General Director of the Tretyakov Gallery.

A cultural and educational cluster with a total area of 127 thousand square meters is being built on Oktyabrsky Island in Kaliningrad. All the facilities represent a single urban space with a zone for walks and recreation. In addition to the building of the Tretyakov Gallery, branches of the Russian State Institute of Stage Arts (Baltic Higher School of Music and Theatre Arts), the Moscow State Academy of Choreography, and the Central Music School – Academy of Performing Arts (‘Baltic’) were previously built there. In addition, a general education school with a swimming pool has been constructed, two dormitories for students, and a dormitory for students, as well as five apartment buildings for teachers and artists of the cultural cluster. Construction of the branch of the Bolshoi Theatre continues.

Similar cultural-educational and museum complexes are being built in Vladivostok, Sevastopol, and Kemerovo by order of the President. The clusters include theatrical stages, exhibition spaces, concert halls, theatrical, musical, choreographic, and other creative schools. The project is implemented by order of the Social and Cultural Purpose Projects Fund “National Cultural Heritage,” with the general contractor being the group of companies “Stroytransgaz.”
