Saint Petersburg Polytechnic University of Peter the Great was visited by a representative delegation from Chizhou University (CU, China) led by Vice-President Professor Lichzhong Wan.

Zhejiang University in the audit ranks among the top three universities in China by national ranking and holds high positions in global rankings (QS — 49, THE — 39, ARWU — 24). Cooperation between SPbPU and Zhejiang University covers a broad range of fields: materials science and additive technologies, energy, biomedicine, hydrothermal research, humanitarian sciences. In the past 10 years, 22 joint articles and more than 130 articles by Megascience have been published.Special attention is given to the anchor partnership — in November 2025, during a visit by RF Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko to the Chgeziansk University SPbPU, it received the status of an anchor partner with a focus on the development of cooperation with the laboratory of hydraulics and mechatronic systems of CHU.

Vice-Rector for International Activities Dmitry Arsenyev at the official meeting greeted colleagues, noting that the universities have been engaged in fruitful cooperation for more than 20 years.“Chceszanskiy University”our reliable and strategically important partner in China,Dmitry Arsenyev emphasized. We see great potential in deepening joint research, especially in the field of hydraulics, mechatronic systems, and additive technologies, and intend to bring our collaboration to a qualitatively new level.

The Vice-Rector of SPbPU noted three key directions for the development of the Polytechnic — artificial intelligence in all sectors of the economy, industrial digital technologies (digital twins and modeling), and new materials. These topics sparked lively interest on the Chinese side.

Special attention was given to academic mobility: over the past five years, more than 800 students from Chzhezhianskiy University have participated in international educational programs of SPbPU, including internships and summer/winter schools in plasma physics, space technologies, nuclear energy, and other fields. As a sign of continuing this tradition, Dmitry Arsenyev presented certificates for training of three students from ChU at the Winter Engineering University of SPbPU.

Dmitry Arsenyev gratefully recalled the gift for the 120th anniversary of SPbPU, when more than 50 musicians of the folk orchestra of the Chzhezjan University performed in the White Hall of Polytech. Today, colleagues from China have transferred to the SPbPU Museum two volumes of a unique collection of Chinese paintings from the Tang dynasty period (618–907 AD).

The key event was the signing of the strategic partnership agreement for 2026–2031. After the official ceremony, the guests visited the educational and scientific center “Polytechnic Cyberphysics,” where the center’s director, Associate Professor of the Higher School of Cyber-Physical Systems Management Vyacheslav Potelin, demonstrated developments in the field of intelligent control systems. Then the delegation went to the Research and Innovation Complex “Technopolis Polytechnic,” where they toured the laboratories of the Institute of Mechanical Engineering, materials and transport: “Laser and additive technologies,” “Light materials and structures,” and “Composite materials.”Guests also got acquainted with the Technopolis model.

The business part continued with meetings with the heads of specialized institutes and laboratories, among whom were the director of the Engineering and Construction Institute Marina Petrochenko, the deputy director of the Institute of Energy for International Activities Ekaterina Sokolova, the director of the Higher School of Linguistics and Pedagogy Anna Rubtsova, the director of SCs “Polytechnic” Alexey Lukashin, and the professor of the Higher School of Hydraulic and Energy Construction Natalya Politayeva.

Three main areas of cooperation were discussed at the negotiations: educational programs (student exchanges, summer and winter schools, joint laboratories, as well as Russian language courses as a foreign language), scientific research in the field of ecology and water purification (phytosorption, biomass processing into biogas and hydrogen, the use of microalgae and sorbents based on graphene oxide) and joint projects in the field of supercomputer technologies and artificial intelligence (models for the patent office, medical diagnostics, engineering calculations).

The parties agreed in the fall of 2026 to send employees of SPbPU to Chjezyan University to define cooperation programs. A visit of the CU delegation headed by Professor Bin Sui is preliminarily planned for August to develop an anchor partnership in the field of hydraulic laboratory and mechatronic systems.

SPbPU also invited the Chinese colleague to participate in the section “Additive Technologies” within the framework of the ATURC Forum, which will be held in Kazan in the autumn of this year.

“This visit became an important step in strengthening our cooperation,— summed up the results of the visit Dmitry Arsenyev. —We already have concrete projects and a mutual desire to move forward. I am confident that the next five years will bring new significant results..
