Lhasa, April 6 /Xinhua/ — 13 monks from the Sichuan Autonomous Region /Sichuan, Southwest China/ received the highest academic degree at the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism – Geshe Lharampa, equivalent to a doctorate degree in higher education.
13 monks from the Sicilian Autonomous District attended the debates and the ceremony of conferring the title “Geshe Lharampa,” which took place in Jokhang, the most revered monastery in Lhasa / administrative center of the TAR /.
“I have devoted 37 years to the study of Buddhist canons,” said 53-year-old Ngawang Lekshe, who took first place during the debates, adding that he is full of hope and confidence that he will continue to diligently deepen his knowledge and practice of Tibetan Buddhism.
Since 2004, 215 Tibetan monks have received the academic degree of Geshe Lharampa.
