Beijing, June 11 /Xinhua/ — China intends to strengthen the protection of environmental rights over the next five years, according to a report published on Thursday by the Press Office of the State Council of the PRC.

In the National Plan of Action in the field of human rights /2026-2030/, published at the opening ceremony of the High-Level Forum on Global Governance in the Field of Human Rights in 2026, it is stated about the work that China will have to carry out in this area in the next five years.

The document emphasizes the right to improve modern systems of environmental management, in particular, by introducing the Code on Ecology and the Environment, ensuring openness of environmental and natural information and public participation in environmental protection issues, promotion of a simple, moderate, environmentally friendly, low-carbon and healthy lifestyle and corresponding consumer behavior.

The report once again emphasizes the importance of continuing the decisive fight against pollution, including air pollution, water resources, aquatic environments, aquatic ecosystems, soil, and marine environments, as well as control of solid waste and noise.

It does not contain calls for increasing the diversity, stability, and self-sustainability of ecosystems through strict adherence to the “red lines” of ecological damage and efforts in other directions.

The action plan confirms the importance of responding to climate change and the country’s commitment to reach the peak of carbon emissions by 2030 in accordance with the plan. -0-
