At the beginning of June, the village of Sinzhai in the city of Baoshan, Yunnan Province, basks in the rays of the warm sun of the subtropical arid valley. Located at the foot of Gaoligongshan Mountain and adjacent to the Nujiang River gorge, the village is surrounded by more than 670 hectares of blooming coffee trees. Although the berries are not yet ripe, the green fruits covering the branches predict a rich harvest in a few months.
The history of coffee cultivation in the village of Sinchzhai is over 70 years old. The village is home to 502 families (2082 people), the area of coffee plantations exceeds 906 hectares, and almost every family is engaged in coffee growing. Currently, 6 specialized coffee farms and 10 unique coffee courtyards have been established here. The village has paved the way for high-quality cultivation and the integration of coffee with tourism. Every year the village receives more than 200 thousand tourists and has earned the title of “The First Coffee Village of China.”
