Tashkent, June 8 /Xin Hua/ — Six people died, and five others sustained injuries of varying severity as a result of an explosion that occurred on Monday at a refueling station for household liquefied gas cylinders in Kashkadarya region in the south of Uzbekistan. This was reported by the press service of the country’s Ministry for Emergency Situations.
According to departmental data, the incident occurred in the Karshinsky district. Rescue units promptly arrived at the scene and extinguished the fire in a short time. All casualties were urgently hospitalized.
As a result of the explosion and the subsequent fire, four vehicles were destroyed, and two underground fuel storage tanks were also damaged.
As reported by local media, by the instruction of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, a government commission has been created, tasked with coordinating the liquidation of the consequences of the emergency, organizing comprehensive assistance to the victims, promptly establishing the exact causes of the explosion, and developing a set of measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
