Moscow, April 4 /Sina/ — A parade of trams from different eras was held in the capital of Russia on Saturday, timed to the 127th anniversary of the opening of tram traffic in Moscow.

16 historic trams, including pre-revolutionary ones, that ran from Kursk station to Sergiy Radonezhsky Street, where they were displayed as exhibits at a retro-transport exhibition.

“The weather is wonderful, and I am confident that today’s celebration will be excellent, especially since we all love the Moscow tram,” said Moscow Deputy Mayor for Transport and Industry Maxim Liksutov. According to him, the annual number of passengers on the Moscow tram is growing at record rates — 15 percent per year.

“We expect that this year, trams will reach a new record figure in passenger transportation,” he added.

Thousands of visitors watched the movement of the tram columns, children and adults boarded the carriages and happily took photographs. Tatyana with her children has been attending the historic tram parade for the second year in a row.

“We have two boys who really like everything related to vehicles, and here you can visually see, touch, and sit on them,” she shares.

Many Muscovites came to the parade with their families. Aleksandr examines the carriages together with his wife and son. “Very beautiful! Very bright! Bright trams! Beautiful people! Retro trams!… This is undoubtedly a celebration,” Aleksandr says with a smile.

The Moscow mayor’s office has prepared an entertainment program with interactive zones in the 1930s style, a concert, and master classes.

“I am confident that the Moscow tram has a huge future,” said M. Liksutov during a conversation with the press. He also added that by the end of the year, 97 percent of trams in Moscow will be completely new.
