Yerevan, June 8 /Xin Hua/ — The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Armenia on Monday published updated preliminary results of the elections to the National Assembly of the country, summarizing the voting results at all 2005 polling stations, as well as electronic voting.

According to the updated data from the CEC, the ruling party “Civil Contract” leads at the moment, having received 49.82% of the votes; in second place is the alliance “Strong Armenia” with 23.28%, and in third place is the alliance “Armenia” with 9.93%.

The Chairman of the CEC, Vaagn Ovakimyan, emphasized at a press conference on Monday that the data results are preliminary; there is still a stage of correction and recalculation ahead, during which all efforts will be made to obtain figures with an accuracy of up to one vote.

According to the preliminary results, previously published on the CEC website, the party “Prosperous Armenia” also passed the parliament with 4 percent of the votes. V. Ovakimyan stated that after adjusting the data considering the results of electronic voting, the indicator for this party decreased to 3.99 percent, which is insufficient for election to parliament.

The Central Election Commission of Armenia reported that in the parliamentary elections held in Armenia on June 7, more than 1.477 million people participated.
