The Samara group of Rosneft enterprises conducted a large-scale campaign for the cleaning and improvement of springs in the Samara region. The event was timed to coincide with the Year of the Unity of the Peoples of Russia: the site chosen for the event was the Kinelsky district – the most multinational territory of the region, where representatives of 43 nationalities live. This environmental initiative is being carried out this year for the tenth time with the support of the Ministry of Forestry, Environment, and Nature Management of the Samara region.

Today, there are more than 1.5 thousand springs in the Samara region. They play a major role in providing the residents of the region with clean drinking water — filling reservoirs, supporting the natural water balance and the functioning of all ecosystems. Therefore, the protection of these sources has high social and ecological importance for the entire region.

Employees of “Samaraneftegaz”, the Novokuibyshevsk NLPZ, the Kuibyshev NLPZ, the Novokuibyshevsk oil company and the Novokuibyshevsk plant of oils and additives have improved two historic springs known since the early 18th century. The first is the Holy Spring in the village of Bogdanovka, near which a bathing area and a chapel named after St. Seraphim of Sarov have been arranged. This picturesque place is popular among local residents, pilgrims, and tourists. The second spring is Barsky Spring, traditionally valued for its high water quality and serves as an important natural source for nearby settlements.

During the campaign, volunteers cleared the adjacent territories of garbage and debris, put the gazebos, bathing areas, and descents to the water in order, and installed informational stands. An important stage of the campaign was the sampling of spring water for laboratory research. Based on the results, official recommendations on the use of the water for residents of the entire region will be prepared. This approach guarantees that the revived sources are not only externally beautified but also safe for domestic use.

With the support of the Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia, volunteers organized an educational quiz called “Encyclopedia of the Native Land.” Participants learned interesting facts about the history, culture, and customs of the nationalities and peoples of the region, outstanding personalities whose lives were connected with the Samara region.
