At the fields of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF-2026), Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Chernyshenko held a meeting with the First Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of Vietnam and Co-Chairman of the Russia-Vietnam Intergovernmental Commission on Trade-Economic and Scientific-Technical Cooperation Pham Chi Hung. This is the first meeting of the co-chairmen after the appointment of Pham Chi Hung.

Dmitry Chernyshenko congratulated the First Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of Vietnam on his appointment and presented information about cooperation between the countries.

“By 2025, the bilateral trade turnover between Russia and Vietnam will grow by 5.7%. According to the results of January to March of this year, the trade turnover between our countries increased by 12%. Together with your predecessor, Comrade Tran Hong Ha, a comprehensive plan for the development of Russian-Vietnamese cooperation for the period up to 2030 was signed in January last year. I am confident that we will be able to achieve all the set goals,” Dmitry Chernyshenko said.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister noted positive dynamics in the field of tourism. In 2025, the flow of tourists from Russia to Vietnam almost doubled. It amounted to 690 thousand people. In just four months of this year, about 500 thousand Russians visited Vietnam. At the request of the Vietnamese side, the issue of concluding an intergovernmental agreement on visa-free group tourist trips is being worked out.

The growth in tourist flow was positively influenced by the increase in the number of flights and the expansion of flight geography. Last week, the airline VietJet Aviation launched flights from Danang to Kazan.

Dmitry Chernyshenko also noted the positive progress in creating a convenient payment infrastructure between the two countries.

In addition, work continues on the launch of the Pushkin Center. A governing council has been formed with the participation of representatives from both countries. Recently, at the Hanoi forum of rectors of Russian and Vietnamese universities, the regulations on the activities of the center were signed. Work is also underway on the project of the Russian school in Hanoi.

For cooperation between our countries to be practical and productive, it must correspond to good diplomatic relations and trust for the interests of the states and peoples of our countries.”We believe that mutual striving for friendship will contribute to strengthening relations between our countries so that it will be effective in all areas – economics, culture, science and technology, education, and personnel training,” stated the First Deputy Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Pham Xuan Thuc.

Also, Dmitry Chernyshenko, together with the president of the NRC Kurchatov Institute Mikhail Kovalchuk and the Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education Konstantin Mogilevskiy, held a meeting with the general director of the international organization ITER (International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor) Pietro Barabaski.
