Shanghai, June 5 /Xinhua/ — On Wednesday, a forum of content creators titled “Humanity Online: Empathy in Times of Crisis” was held in the city of Shanghai (East China), organized jointly by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the Xinhua News Agency, and Fudan University.

About 100 representatives of the media, higher education institutions, international organizations, digital platforms, and content creation fields participated in the event. They exchanged views on issues of digital storytelling, the responsibilities of content creators, and global humanitarian communication.

Chen Jimin, Vice President of Fudan University and Dean of the Institute of International Communication and Global Leadership of this university, said that content creators, independent video producers, and journalists of in-depth reports act as “translators” and “amplifiers” of the ability to empathize during times of crisis.

He expressed hope that all parties would work together to stimulate the creation of a larger amount of humanitarian content characterized by warmth, depth, and responsibility.

“The role of China as a major global player is also becoming increasingly significant in areas such as humanitarian aid, international cooperation, and efforts to support peace and dialogue,” said Boris Kelechevich, acting head of the ICRC regional delegation in East Asia.

He added that Chinese media institutions, universities, and digital content creators possess growing global influence and have an important ability to help the audience better understand humanitarian realities beyond headlines and stereotypes.
