Kiev, June 4 /Xin Hua/ — On Wednesday, a meeting took place in Kiev between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. At the meeting, key directions for strengthening Ukraine’s air defense were defined, the press service of the Office of the President of Ukraine reported on Wednesday evening.
V. Zelensky called on international partners to focus efforts on helping to defend Ukrainian territory from ballistic missiles.
He expressed gratitude for the continuation of the implementation of the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List /PURL/ program, aimed at providing Ukraine with critically important American-made weaponry. At the same time, V. Zelensky pointed out the necessity to increase the speed and volume of deliveries.
M. Rütte noted that partners continue to provide support to Ukraine, in particular through PURL. According to him, NATO understands how acute the country’s need for air defense means is.
The parties also discussed cooperation within the framework of the Drone Deals initiative and work on creating their own missile defense system in Europe. According to V. Zelensky, Ukraine is already working in this direction with France, Norway, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, Italy, and other countries. In addition, negotiations with the USA continue regarding the possibility of obtaining licenses for the production of Patriot systems in Ukraine or jointly with partners in the North Atlantic Alliance.
M. Rütte arrived in Kyiv on Wednesday. During the visit, he took part in a meeting of the Ukraine–NATO Council.
