New Delhi, June 4 /Xinhua/ — At least 18 foreign nationals died as a result of a fire that broke out in a hotel in the capital of India — New Delhi. Local media reported this.

According to the report, among the fatalities were foreign citizens from Bangladesh, Nigeria, Mozambique, and Liberia. The total number of victims currently stands at 21 people, more than 40 people were delivered to nearby hospitals. The exact cause of the fire is being clarified.

In a message on the social network X, the President of India, Draupadi Murmu, expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.

Sources reported that the hotel is located near one of the leading medical centers in New Delhi, and most hotel guests either undergo treatment or visit patients hospitalized in this hospital.

It also became known that according to the issued license, the hotel was entitled to operate only six rooms, whereas, according to available data, at the time of the incident it was operating 25 rooms. –0–
