Beijing, April 4 /Xin Hua/ — On Saturday, the first day of the three-day Qingming Festival holiday (April 4-6), the volume of interregional passenger traffic in China is expected to exceed 295 million trips, which is 2.7 percent more than the same period last year, the Ministry of Transport of the PRC reported on Saturday.
In particular, it is expected that the volume of railway passenger traffic will increase by 9 percent to 21.90 million passenger trips. Let us remind you that according to previously published forecasts by the China State Railway Corporation, during the special period of operation of the entire Chinese railway system for the Qingming Festival, which lasts from April 3 to April 7, the total volume of passenger traffic on the country’s railways may reach 90.5 million passenger trips.
The water passenger flow on Saturday will amount to 1.353 million passenger-trips, an increase of 11.7%, while a similar indicator in the civil aviation sector will decrease by 13.4% to 1.92 million passenger-trips.
Passenger traffic on automobile transport, which is the most loaded type of transport, will increase by 2.3% to more than 270 million passenger-trips.
The Qingming Festival, or Tomb-Sweeping Day, this year will be observed on April 5. It is a traditional Chinese holiday when people pay tribute to the deceased and honor their ancestors. On this occasion, the holiday also allows people to take a short break from work and study, dedicating time to active leisure and visiting landmarks.
